#YJJ Book: Jeep Color History

Yellow Jeep Book

An interesting Twitter conversation emerged today about how a children’s book would dare call a Jeep a “car.” Such heresy! I mentioned that I had heard very early Jeeps called “scout cars” in a Ford promotional film.

To confirm my memory, I did a bit of research and found this great book, “Jeep Color History,” by Steve Statham, on Google Books. On pages 19 and 20 was the proof:

“the military would have to set forth the specifications it wanted for its proposed scout car and worked with automakers to create the final product. … The early scout cars from Bantam, Willys and Ford were not immediately labeled “Jeeps”; than name came later.”

The book is out of print, but I ordered an inexpensive used copy from Amazon.com.  Can hardly wait to see the real thing!

A few days ago, Guillermo Luna (aka @guillermoluna8) posted the following beautiful photo of the Shafer Canyon Trail on Instagram.  I have posted it here with his permission.

Can you see the #YellowJeep way down below?

Shafer Canyon Trail

The Shafer Trail is 37 miles long, snaking through Canyon Lands National Park near Moab, Utah. This trail is definitely on my bucket list – definitely worth working for.
